Born Up North (Bun.)

Tucked away on the lively Telegraph Road in Heswall, Born Up North (Bun.) is the kind of place you walk into once and suddenly find yourself coming back every weekend. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite or lingering over a custom burger and a cold pint, this independent restaurant nails that perfect blend of laid-back comfort and serious flavor craftsmanship.

From the moment you step through the wheelchair-accessible entrance, there's a sense that this isn't just another trendy burger joint. The industrial-chic interior has just the right balance of northern edge and cozy charm. If you're here solo or with mates, for lunch or late-night eats, Bun. keeps things casual but well-executed-exactly what you'd want from a spot that’s becoming a go-to in Wirral.

Let’s talk food-because that’s where Born Up North (Bun.) really flexes its identity. The Wolf Burger with Rosemary Fries is a beast: stacked high with juicy patty, melty cheese, and packed with umami. If you're the type who customizes everything, the Customisable Burger section of the menu gives you full control over toppings, sauces, and sides. Go bold with Piri Piri Fries or amp up the decadence with Parmesan & Truffle Fries-they don’t hold back on flavour here.

Now, if you’re into something beyond burgers, don’t overlook the Wasabi Tuna Burger. It’s a refreshing surprise with a gentle kick that shows the kitchen’s creative flair. On Sundays, the Sunday Roast has gained a cult following-tender meat, perfectly crisp roasties, and rich gravy that hits like home. And for meat lovers, the Rump Steak and Surf and Turf are solid picks that never disappoint. The Chicken Wings? Crispy, saucy, and totally addictive.

But it’s not just about the food. Bun. shines when it comes to drinks too. There’s a great beer selection, featuring local and international brews that pair seamlessly with everything on the menu. Whether you're unwinding after work or catching up with friends, the cocktails, spirits, and wines offer something for every vibe. Their coffee game? Surprisingly strong for a place that leans heavy into burgers and beer. You’ll want to sip one post-meal-especially if you’re eyeing the dessert menu, which, by the way, is far more than an afterthought.

Born Up North (Bun.) makes it a point to be inclusive and comfortable. Wheelchair-accessible seating and toilets are available, and there’s outdoor seating for when the weather's on your side. It’s also an ideal spot for solo dining, thanks to the quick service and no-fuss setup. While they don’t offer delivery, takeaway is available-perfect when you’re craving quality comfort food at home.

What sets Bun. apart is that it doesn’t try too hard-it just gets it right. The atmosphere is effortlessly relaxed, the menu is clearly designed by people who care about flavor, and the service is fast without feeling rushed. You can come in for a fast lunch, linger for dinner, or swing by for some late-night food with a pint in hand. It’s that rare place where every visit feels both easy and indulgent.

For anyone in Heswall or just passing through the Wirral, Born Up North (Bun.) is more than worth the stop. Whether it’s the Wasabi Tuna Burger that piques your curiosity, or the comforting pull of a classic Sunday Roast, this is one of those spots that keeps climbing your personal rankings with every visit.

NEW MENU IS AMAZING. We went in to try the new menu last night, it was amazing. Sirloin steak was done to perfection. Cajun chips as always are the best ever and chicken wings were lovely. Mac and cheese never fails. Service was fast and served with a smile. Love it here.

Staff are super friendly and eager to please, the venue is pretty small and intimate so you can always get someone's attention. Stunning food and huge portions. Menu is simple so they have perfected what they do.

I go to BUN regularly and it never disappoints. The food is really high quality, the best burgers I have had, with really great flavour combinations. My favourite is the Dutty Blue. The fries are gorgeous too, particularly the salt and pepper ones. The atmosphere is chilled and staff great. My absolute favourite thing (as well as the burgers) are the Margaritas. I am very fussy about Margaritas and they often disappoint in other places but BUN’s are excellent and I often go there just for them!
